Mum’s Big Idea for Tiny Babies

A Busy mum has set up a business to help the parents of premature babies. Mum of one Sharon Ward, 36, set up Teddy & Me whilst juggling the care of four-year-old son Louis and working in a warehouse until 11pm.

The Kenilworth based business has taken off and Sharon is already winning praise – she has been nominated for Yell.com’s Inspirational Business Mum of the year award.

Sharon said: “The idea came about through my involvement with the charity ADAPT, which supports the parents of premature babies in neonatal units.” “I realised there was a lack of suitable, well fitting clothing available and wanted to help alleviate the problem.” “I initially thought I would be able to buy clothes from a manufacturer and sell them but I couldn’t find anyone making them.”

“So with the support of a pattern maker and my husband Jon, plus help and advice from paediatricians, neonatal specialists and parents, I designed them myself and had them manufactured at a factory in the Midlands”

The tiny outfits, which start at 400grams, take into consideration any tubes/drips and monitors the babies may have attached, whist offering maximum comfort and ease of dressing. Sharon also wanted to help the many parents who lose their babies to prematurity and stillbirth, by creating resting garments for babies weighing less than 3.5kg (8lbs).

A spokes women from the awards said: “The award recognises the commitment, energy, drive and determination of business mums and the specific challenges they face combining entrepreneurship with motherhood.” Finalists will be notified at the end of May.

Spaceflights to Earth Began When Planet Cooled

Spaceflights to Earth Began When Planet Cooled

The ball of fire blazing in the distance, which was to become our earth, was visible at all times for hundreds of thousands of years until gradually it began to cool. Many more eons went by before the flights to planet earth began from the Andromeda galaxy.

The first day mentioned in the Bible referred to the first ships from the other galaxies. The Andromedans made the first two trips. The first trip was the discovery of the amoeba; on the second trip they discovered that it had progressed into the upright animal form. These would be the first two days Biblically speaking.

The travelers from the Andromeda galaxy watched the cooling down process. Their space ships traveled to it before it even cooled enough for landing. It had cooled to a solid but the gases were still curling up off of it and lava would bubble up everywhere.

They stayed with it until the discovery of the amoeba. This ended the participation of the Andromedans, who came from all the inhabited planets in that galaxy, taking turns sending expeditions.

Having discovered the beautiful shaping up of this amoeba, the Andromedans turned the watch over to the Pleiades galaxy, which was responsible for the third and fourth days Biblically speaking. By the time of the fourth trip the animals had truly progressed past the ape stage into a different form. The Pleiadians carried it to the stage where the animals started walking upright, when it was possible to mate the animals with evolved life from other planets.

When this was discovered the Pleiadians then turned it over to Sirion and others in the same galaxy, the Milky Way as we know it. The different galaxies watching earth’s progress had superior knowledge in their particular stage of the watch and, for instance, when the Andromedans turned it over to the Pleiadians, they (the Andromedans) took on the watch of the next planet, which is almost in the amoeba stage now.

As given the Pleiadians, in turn, gave the watch over to other planets in the Milky Way galaxy, of which Sirion and Venus were the main two. They were responsible for the fifth and sixth trips (days).

At the time of the fifth trip the true form had altered from that of the animal. They had been watching for this alteration to appear before they began their experiments. The animals still had their tails at the beginning of their experiments, which they quickly lost. The original experimenters were from Venus. The animals were left to bear their offspring for two generations. This would be the fifth day.

On the sixth day (trip) they were again inseminated with their genes, artificially. It took four generations for them to lose their tail to the point where it was a stub of six inches, and it took three more generations for this stub to disappear.

The formation of the Biological Kingdom was an involved process. As the one cell amoeba split, the ones that did not split were growing and forming into all different kinds of animals. The ones that did not split had the double stomach intestinal tract, totally different from the ones who did split.

Keep in mind that the ones that did split were forming into a very different kind of animal, one that started standing up on its hind legs; one that had a different internal make-up, the cave man stage. Then came the split into the bisexual animal and finally the split into those animals that were able to pull energy from the atmosphere.

When the evolving animals were found to be standing upright, they were huge in size, what would be termed a giant in today’s world. At the same time that they were inseminated with genes, they were also miniaturized to bring them down to the approximate size of the spacemen. The process took several generations. The other animals were also large, but were not miniaturized at that time. Therefore they continued to grow, but the ones who were of the ape family, that had been inseminated, continued to get smaller.

All these other animals continued developing, along with the group of animals that had been miniaturized. This group was now standing up on their hind legs. They were beginning to group together, taking cover from the huge animals. These were the results of the split of the amoeba.

They were more refined; they actually were to the point of where they could think. They had this awareness, this instinct of self-preservation honed to a sharper degree than the big animals of the animal kingdom. The more they began to separate themselves off into their groups, the greater the difference between them and the animals became. They gathered together to find food and for protection and they began to form a group consciousness of taking care of each other. They also began banding together against the antagonism of the big animals.

They were thinking on a certain level, to the point where they could plan ahead, perhaps to put food away for the hard winter weather. They had a realization of the cycles of nature. They seemed to understand what caused babies to be born. They had a rudimentary mind working on an instinct level of procreation, self-preservation and instinct survival.

Earth was then left alone for a lengthy period of time, until the first animals started standing upright. At this time the insemination experiments were begun that would carry the evolution on the planet ever forward. (These experiments are the “days” referred to in the Bible.)

The story of creation covers many generations of experiments. Passages in Genesis were still dealing with the experiments of the space people in getting a line of more highly evolved humans started; not only started, but controlled as far as having anything further to do with those coming from a more pure animal background.

Contributions of Ancient Arabian and Egyptian Scientists on Botany and Agriculture

Contributions of Ancient Arabian and Egyptian Scientists on Botany and Agriculture

Md. Wasim Aktar*

Deptt. of Agril. Chemicals, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal, India.

There was a great scarcity of water and vegetation in the desert of Arabia. The people living there needed plants to feed their animals. They wandered in search of vegetation, and went wherever they could find it. This great importance of plants resulted in their becoming an important topic of Arabic literature.

The study of plants was chiefly made from medical and agricultural points of view. The Arabs already knew about the medical use of some herbs and shrubs (‘Aqaqir wa’l Hashä’ish). At the advent of Islam when, in connection with preaching, Jihad, or some other purposes they came in contact with other peoples, they took interest not only in the names and uses of plants, but they became also interested in their cultivation. So they tried to know the matters relating to agriculture such as the methods of plantation and fertilization, the time suitable for sowing and harvesting, and the nature of the soil. They made correct observations on sexual differences between such plants as palms and hemps. The plants were classified into those that grow from cuttings, those that grow from seeds and those that grow spontaneously.

The Ancient scientists’ knowledge of applied botany and agriculture can be estimated by reading the accounts of gardens and crops cultivated in different parts of the Ancient scientist world, particularly those in Spain. At one time ancient Spain was proverbial in this respect. The Arabs introduced irrigation and agricultural methods there with the result that it was transformed into a garden.

Cotton, rice, sugarcane, asparagus, oranges, lemons and pomegranates were some of the plants and fruits brought from outside and cultivated in Spain. Through that country the Europeans became aware of the cultivation of many plants which they did not know before. The famous gardens of Persia, Spain and Morocco, with well p1anned arrangements of trees, shrubs and flowers, with their tilled floors, their rivulets and fountains of water, built with an aesthetic taste, establishing harmony between architecture and vegetation throws light on their interest in agriculture, gardening and love for flowers .

Since the Arabs did not know much about the art of agriculture, they turned towards other peoples including the Romans, Nabateans and Persians for learning it. They also translated their botanical works into Arabic.

There are many lexicographers, geographers, travellers and physicians who wrote on plants. One of them was Abü Sa’id ‘Abd al-Malik lbn Quraib al-Asma’i. He was a native of Basrah, and came to Baghdad during the reign of Härun al- Rashid. Asma’i was born in 739 and died in 831. He is the author of a number of works on different subjects. One of them is on plants and trees. In the preface of this book the author has provided a general discussion on plants. First of all he has mentioned various types of soils having different conditions regarding their capabilities for cultivation and vegetation. Then he has mentioned the trees, giving an account of their various stages of development. After that he has classified the plants, giving examples for each class. Finally, he has described those plants which grow in plains and deserts. He has mentioned 230 plants in all. (1)

Another lexicographer and grammarian who wrote on plants was Ahmad Ibn Da’ud Ibn Wanand, nicknamed al-Dinawari. He was also called al- Ashshãb (the herbalist). He was a trustworthy reporter, an expert botanist, astronomer and logician Who compiled a number of works on various subjects.

In his book on plants al-Dinawari described, after observing the plants in the places where they grew, all that he had discovered and also all that his predecessors had mentioned. He did not leave even the minute details. This book was considered to be a standard work on herbalism, medicine and lexicography at a time when no one could become a physician or herbalist unless he had thoroughly studied this book, and was examined in it. (2)

Al-Birüni (d.1048) made observation on plants. He discovered that flowers have 3, 4, 5, 6 or 18 petals, never 7 or 9. (3)

A physician Mãsarjwaih also compiled a work on the properties of simple drugs mentioning their good and bad effects. He was a Syrian Jew who flourished during the reign of Umar Ibn ‘Abd al-’Aziz, and translated for him and for the Caliph Marwan some Greek works into Arabic. He translated the second part of Galen’s work on simple drugs, which consists of six discourses. The translation was corrected by Hunain lbn Ishaq. (4)

The Ancient scientists attached more importance to the translation of Dioscorides’work than to other botanical works. The later writers based their works on it adding whatever they knew of plants and simple drugs. Dioscorides was a distinguished scientist and an authority on herbs. He was a native of Anazarbos, hence called Ainzarbi. He travelled extensively and made investigations on plants and their properties. When he reached certain conclusions about the plants, he entered them into his book illustrating them with the pictures representing the colours of plants. The book of Dioscorides consists of five discourses. Two more discourses on the animal poisons are ascribed to him. Thus the total number of discourses is seven.

The first discourse deals with sweet smelling drugs. The second consists of the description of vegetables and animals and their fluids. The third discourse discusses the roots of plants, the thorny plants and similar topics. The fourth deals with the drugs which are cold in nature, those which are warm, and those which cause relief from poisonous effects. The fifth discourse mentions different kinds of drinks and mineral drugs. (5)

One of the most important Ancient scientist botanists was Abu’l-Mansur Rashid al-Din Abu’l-Fadl Ibn Ali al-Süri He was the greatest authority on simple drugs, the variety of their names, their properties and uses. He was born in 1177 at the city of Sur in Syria, and was brought up there. Later he came to Baghdad where he started the study of medidine from Shaikh Muwaffaq al-Din Abd al-Latif al-Baghdadi. Al-Suri spent two years in Quds, at the hospital of the city where he practiced medicine.

Al-Süri went to the places where the plants could be found, like the hills of Lebanon and other places which were famous for one or the other plant. He used to take with him a painter having different kinds of colours and paints. He observed the plants and showed them to his painter. The painter noticed the colour and roots of the plants, the size of their leaves and branches, and made the pictures accordingly. Al-Suri showed the plants to the painter at the time of their growth, maturity and withering. The painter prepared the pictures of the plants at every stage of their development, and filled in them the colours which he observed at that time. Al-Suri included these illustrations in his book on simple drugs and plants. He collected in it the material that he found in the books of the ancients, and also mentioned the drugs which he had discovered himself and their use which he came to know. Al-Suri served al-Malik al-Adil Abu Bakr Ibn Ayyüb as a physician in 1215, and accompanied him from Quds to the Egyptian lands. After the death of al-Malik al-Adil, he served his son, al- Malik al-Mu’azzam ‘Isa Ibn Abi Bakr. After the latter’s death, al-Suri served his son, al-Malik al-Nasir Da’ud Ibn al-Malik al-Mu’azzam. He was made the chief physician. Al-Suri died in 1241 in Damascus. (6)

Another illustrious scholar and a distinguished botanist was Abu Ja’far Ahmad lbn Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Ibn Sayyid al-Ghafiqi (d. 1165). As compared with others, he had a greater knowledge of the properties, uses and names of the simple drugs. His book on this subject is a valuable source of information. The author described briefly what Dioscorides and Galen wrote on this subject. He also mentioned what the later writers contributed to this branch of science. Thus his book consists of the accounts of simple drugs given by those who are learned in this field. (7)

One of the most important Ancient scientist botanists was Abu Muhammad ‘Abd Allah Ibn Ahmad al-Mãliqi al-Nabäti, known as Ibn al-Baitàr. He was the greatest expert of his time in identifying the plants. He conducted research on the plants, and acquired a good knowledge of the names of the plants and their species and the places where they grew. He travelled in the Roman lands (Asia Minor) and some other territories and observed the plants in the places where they grew. There he also met some botanists, and learnt from them about many plants. He also met some well known botanists in the Maghrib and other places.

Ibn al-Baitar was in the service of al- Malik al-Kamil Muhammad Ibn Abi Bakr Ibn Ayyüb. He was considered to be an authority on simple drugs and shrubs, and was appointed in Egypt as the chief of physicians and apothecaries. He remained in his service until his death. Then he was honoured by his son al-Malik al-Salih Najm al-Din Ayyilb. He died in Damascus in 1048. Al-Baitàr is the author of many works on simple drugs and other subjects. One of them is the Kitab al-Jami’ fi‘l-Adwiyyah al-Mufradah. This book is chiefly based on the works of his Greek and Ancient scientist predecessors, but also contains his personal observations made in different lands. The opinions of the later scholars about mineral, animal and plant drugs have also been quoted in the book. The author gave in alphabetical order the Persian, Latin and Berber tames of the simple drugs and also cleared the confusions in the names. He also mentioned their properties and uses. This book is the best Arabic work on this subject. It was written for Al-Malik al-Salih Najm al-Din Ayyüb Ibn al-Malik al-Kãmil. It was translated into French and German. (8)

Another famous scholar and botanist of Spain was Abu’l-Abbas Ahmed lbn Muhammad Ibn Mufarraj Ibn Abi’l-khatib known as Ibn al-Rumiyah. He was a native of Seville. In 1216 he went to Egypt. He lived for two years in Egypt, Syria and Iraq where the people learnt something from him. In these lands he observed many plants which were not found in his native land. He observed the plants in the places where they grew. When he reached Alexandria the Sultan al-Malik al-’Adil Abü Bakr Ibn Ayyub heard about his scholarship and his deep knowledge of plants. The Sultan called him to his court and honoured him. He stayed with him for sometime, and then returned to Spain.

Ibn al-Rümiyah was a well-known scholar, researcher on medicine, the author of many works and fond of collecting books. One of his writings is a commentary on Dioscorides’ book dealing with simple drugs. He also wrote a travelogue at the end of his travels in the Eastern land entitled Al-Rihlat al-Mashriqiyyah. It is a collection of his discussions and observation made particularly on the coasts of the Mediterranean. (9)

The last famous writer on agriculture in Spain was Abü Zakariyyä Yahya Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ahmad Ibn Awwam al-Ashbili. His valuable book is entitled Kitab al-Falahah. It is based on the works of his Greek, Roman, Nabatean and Ancient scientist predecessors, but also includes the author’s personal observations. It is divided into two parts which consist of 35 chapters. Every chapter deals with some definite topics concerning agriculture. (10)

Another important book on agriculture was written by Shaikh Radi al-Din al-Qarshi. It is entitled Jami’ farã’ id al-Malähah fi Jawami’ Fawa’id al-Falahah. It consists of the following eight chapters:

1. Various kinds of soil

2. Watering, digging of canals and wells and taking out of water

3. Trees and their plantation

4. Various methods of plantation

5. Seeds and grains, their selection, sowing and cutting

6. Various types of flavours , flowers, etc.

7. Description of the days, months, weathers, etc., suitable for cultivation.

8. Storage of grains, seeds, dry and fresh fruits, some vegetables1 extracts, salts,

yeasts, rose water, etc.’ (11)

The first geographer and traveller who mentioned plants in his books was Ibn al-Wádih al-Ya’qübi (d. 1794). He travelled throughout the Ancient scientist world and composed a work entitled Kitab al-Buldán. (12)

The famous geographer Abu Abd Allah Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Ibn ‘Abd Allah Ibn Idris al-Husaini al-Saqali, commonly known as al-Sharif al-Idrisi, also wrote three works on plants and simple drugs. One of them entitled ‘Kitab al-Jãmi’ li-Sifat Ashtat al-Nabät contains the description of various useful drugs relating to trees, fruits, roots, flowers, minerals, etc. The names of drugs have been arranged in alphabetical order, and their Arabic, Persian, Greek, Syrian, Latin and Berber names have been described. The author has mentioned the use of some plants and the oils and gums extracted from them. The book consists of four parts. The first part contains the description of 369 simple drugs and the second one of 250. (13)

The greatest botanist of the 16th century was Da’ud Ibn Umar al-Nasir al-Antäki. He was a distinguished physician as well No scientist compiled such a valuable work on simple drugs as he did. He made a remarkable addition to the knowledge of his predecessors regarding the simple drugs and their uses. (14)

An important botanist of the 18th century was ‘Abd al-Razzäq Ibn Muhammad Ibn Hamadush Al-Jazä’iri. In 1717—18 he left for Makkah for the performance of Hajj . He wrote a book called ‘Kashif al-Rumüz fi Sharh al-Aqaqir wa’l-A’shab. This book seems to be a summary of the books written on this subject by Abd al-Razzaq’s predecessors with the addition of the new substances which were used by the Europeans as drugs. He also gave their common and local names. He derived information from the works of Ibn Sinä, Ibn al-Baitar and Da’ud al-Antaki. One thousand simple drugs in all have been dealt with. This was translated into French. (15)

It is a fact that worthwhile work for stay at home moms is not so easy to find.  When I was at home with my children, the only choices I had was babysitting other peoples toddlers or sewing.  I chose the latter, which no-one really thought was worth paying for but they had to give me something.  It was not very rewarding in any sense.  Nowadays, however, there are some wonderful choices of work for stay at home moms if you look hard enough and I will tell you about one of them that I found and is working really well for me.

When I decided to get back into the workforce, I saw immediately that I needed some computer training.  I took a three month course and found I really liked working on the computer.  I had no idea at the time if I would find work for stay at home moms with the little bit of knowledge I had acquired but started searching for a way to earn money online without leaving home.  Oh my, I found there were, and still are, so many scams and fraudulent companies out there that I began to doubt.

However, as I was searching for work for stay at home moms I had a great piece of luck and clicked on a Google ad that lead me to a DVD.  This presentation explained to me that there was a company offering a program of internet marketing training.  Their mandate is to teach everyone who is interested to sell anything to anyone anywhere in the world online.  I discovered they are also building a whole community of people who stay connected by phone and internet to encourage and help each other out. I liked the sound of that. The more I discovered about the company, the more I realized that they are definitely catering to anyone who wants to design their own life and are teaching the skills needed to provide work for stay at home moms.

This seemed like the perfect fit for the category of work for stay at home moms and I got involved.  Well, the training is certainly there!  Thousands of hours of DVD trainings and recordings for every possible form of marketing on the internet are available once you get started.  You can listen to online training in the form of new webinars and conference calls every day.  This is perfect work for stay at home moms, as long as you have a computer, of course!

I discovered that the computer training I’d taken wasn’t even really necessary because most of the commands you need are ‘point and click’ with a mouse.  Knowing how to type is an asset but even two finger typing will work – just slows you up a bit.  As for work for stay at home moms, as long as you are open to learning new skills and able to access a computer, I can’t think of anything better to be doing.  Oh yes, you actually make money as you follow the steps diligently!

If your kids are still young and you are determined to be home with them, work for stay at home moms is the answer.  You don’t have to get a babysitter while you learn and work.  If your children are grown and off having their own fun, meaningful work for stay at home moms is vital to add to the quality of your life.

L.W. Seals here,

Today’s topic: MORTGAGE CYCLING

How are you this evening?…Great, great! Happy to hear that, happy to hear that. Welcome to our show. You know, everyone is getting ready for the 4th of July weekend, and all types of crazy stuff is going on. Little kids are strapping firecrackers onto the backs of stray animals; fires are sparking up all over the country. The temperature was about 97 degrees today. It’s a little bit wild… We still have’nt purchased any fireworks yet, but we should have one of those mega-family fun packs by the end of the night.

Anyway, today we have a great show for you. On the Ultimate, Super, Fantastic, Mortgage…Resource Site! I had someone ask what Mortgage cycling was. So I want to discuss some aspects of “Mortgage Cycling Revealed”. It explains how to quickly build equity in your home, and pay it off within 10 years or less, all without making biweekly mortgage payments. This would be a pretty cool thing to do right? First off, you pay down your mortgage a lot faster than originally planned. Once your house is payed off, that does mean less stress right? Not to mention more spending money from the equity that you’ve built. Who knows, maybe you can use that extra money to add on to your existing home, pay for your child’s college tuition, go on your dream vacation around the world, or maybe even purchase a second property! It’s your money, do what you want with it.

To our previous caller, some of the things I really like about “Mortgage Cycling Revealed”, is that you get bonuses like the mortgage Cycling Calculator, a guide so that you’ll know “Which Loan is Right For Me?”, Specialty Mortgage Products, “Your Mortgage Checklist”, and learn how to “Cancel Your Private Mortgage Insurance”.

As far as this mortgage cycling goes, we know some of you may say, ” What about the economy? Things may not look so good in the future”. It really does’nt matter when you use a system that works no matter what shape the economy is in. Some of you may live in certain areas that you are not so sure of, or worry about the type of mortgage you are tied into. It doesn’t matter where you live or what type of mortgage you have. Some people don’t know anything, or very little about mortgages. But it does’nt make a difference how much you know or don’t know about mortgages.

Mortgage Cycling Tip:
If you’re looking to pay down your home in a fraction of the time and have the extra cash to spare, why would’nt you save $$$ on the interest charges of your home? Some say it’s risky…anything is when you don’t go about it the right way. Learn the facts, and take advantage of the benefits. Knowledge is power.

… Personal letters are often letters to family members, boyfriends or girlfriends, friends or pen friends -often friendly letters.

… Semiformal letters are often routine letters to e.g., order or return goods, instruct on delivery, or to confirm or request information -acquaintances also sometimes write letters semi-formally.

… Formal letters are often non-routine. Writing a letter formally implies officialdom -most seldom write letters formally.

Letter writing scares many people. Many don’t know how to write a letter or note. The following all there is to writing letters.

>>> Writing Personal Letters

To write letters to loved ones, friends away please. They like news about you, personal letters –especially if you write letters interestingly. Write letters cheerfully. Write a letter to cheer up. When you write a letter appreciate, praise, credit them. Write letters as if who you are writing a letter to is there, you are talking: “Oh, this tea’s cold! Anyway, I decided to write a letter…”

In writing personal letters, how intimately you write a letter depends on what is acceptable to who you are writing the letter. Unless you know it’s all right, don’t e-mail, fax or post loved ones or friends personal letters at a workplace; it may embarrass, cause problems if others see your letter. Privately communicate letters.

Letter writing is easiest when one is writing personal letters. If you can’t think of much to write in your letter other than “Hi!” or “I’m well…” and “How are you?” (which always pleases), don’t postpone writing your letter. A glance at a newspaper will show interesting things to write in your letter. When you write a letter do gossip -it’s liked in personal letters. Remember this when writing personal letters. Be interesting when you to write a letter.

In letter writing it matters: include a joke or two in personal letters. Loving or funny verses please in personal letters. When you write a letter remember: in personal letters a picture of you delights. In writing letters, if appropriate, drawing a flower, heart, kiss makes personal letters loved. Write letters that ask opinions of persons you write personal letters to, even if it’s only “Good, huh?” or “Nice, don’t you think?” Such letter writing makes you interesting, popular with those you write personal letters to.

>>> Writing Semiformal Letters and Formal Letters

In writing a letter keep to the point. Letters in these categories are often short letters about personal dealings with businesses, e.g., to instruct a bank to make or cancel a regular payment, or query a return, refund, or a job. They may be long, detailed letters but still simple, easy to write letters. When you write a letter keep a copy.

>> Letters received can be, e.g., asking you to confirm something.

When writing a letter replying to such letters write your contact details at the top right corner of the letter, their address at the top left corner of the letter; add the date, and their letter’s reference.

In your letter address them as they have you. Begin the letter by stating their letter’s date, e.g., “Thank you for your letter of ….”

Continue the letter, in a new paragraph. Be brief, simple, e.g., “This is to confirm that …” End your letter as ended their letter.

>> Letters sent to businesses to complain, request information, apply.

In writing a letter to a business, address, date your letter, state their reference as above. If you know the name of the person you are writing a letter to, begin “Dear Mr./Mrs./Miss./Ms. …” If not, in your letter address the reader as “Dear Sir/Madam” or “Dear Sirs.” Ensure to state under it their order/invoice number. Keep your letter simple. When writing business letters, if began ‘Dear Mr. …’, end “Yours sincerely”; if ‘Dear Sir’, “Yours faithfully.”

> Letters of complaint are important. Before writing a letter of complaint, if annoyed, cool off -make tea, telephone friends. You are writing a letter to get a desired response -you are less likely to if you write an angry letter. Businesses in writing letters like to appear fair -business letters try, when you write a letter politely.

When you write letters of complaint say what is wanted clearly, simply, e.g., “I have not yet received a refund for … I enclose a copy of the returns-note/receipt. I look forward to hearing from you.” Add any enclosures to the letter of complaint. Keep copies.

> Letters requesting information can be personal letters but must be clear. Write a letter simply ask for the information want. In writing letters requesting information on subjects you don’t know much about, it helps to end your letter “… and any other details you may deem useful’. Writing letters so brings more information.

> Letters of application for a job or a grant should have wider margins for reader-notes, and bear in mind any closing dates. When you write a letter of application briefly emphasize how you meet the criteria. Say ‘available for interview’, and do print your name.

>> Letters to officials may need to be long, detailed; but writing letters that are so is easy. You may have to write letters arguing with business or official letters received; or to explain, detail, enclose documents; or write a letter to summon a politician’s aid.

Writing letters that are official does not require high literacy. Not high literacy but method involves writing letters that are official.

When you write a letter to deal with letters requesting specific details and documents, in your letter simply respond in the order they are listed. Where business letters or other official letters request details generally, or if you are initiating correspondence by a writing a letter, first draft your letter -it helps in writing a letter.

Letters are easily, best drafted thus: For your letter’s rough copy use lined paper. Draft your letter in pencil, leaving every other line blank. Jot down and number the points you will raise in the letter. Then stop working on your letter.

Take a break from writing your letter; do something unrelated to writing a letter. You want to write a letter to make those points. Let your mind ‘digest’ the points you will raise in your letter.

Later look at your letter again, put other points that occur to you on the blank lines. Re-number the points of your letter as you think logical. But don’t hurry up to write a letter, yet. Sleep on it.

Then look at the draft letter, amend as necessary, write your letter.

Begin your letter by stating clearly what you want. End the letter briefly, simply, clearly repeating what you want.

When letter writing ends, enclose copies of any documents in the order of your letter’s points -number, list them if they are many.

How to write a letter that is complicated is that easy and simple -that makes seemingly difficult to write letters easy to write letters.

>>> Writing Personal Notes

Unlike writing letters, notes are informal -sometimes important.

> Routine notes may not be important: “Your dinner’s in the oven,” or to the milkman: “Two bottles today, please.”

>> Social etiquette notes that are expected may be important. Many do not write letters to socially invite or let another know that one will attend a party, or to thank another. Instead of writing letters they write social notes -to acquaintances, or strangers. As in letter writing, notes cause impressions to be formed about one.

These brief notes have the same tone as when writing letters informally, but must be courteous and polite. In inviting someone, one example is: “Hi, Nancy.. I’m having my birthday party, on ….., and it’d be so nice if you too could come. Love, Jenny.” Another example is: “Dear Mr. & Mrs. … we are having a house-warming party on ….. and we would love to have you too. Yours, Jo & Joe.” In accepting an invitation one example is: “How nice! See you then! Jenny.” Another example is: “So kind of you to invite us too -we will both be delighted to attend. Yours, Eric.” If you are courteous, polite, recipients will mention you favourably when they write letters, will speak well of you in your social circles.

>> Sympathy notes must be written carefully. These are e.g., get-well notes, sometimes on cards; or, to express condolences to someone who is in mourning -when most do not write a letter but a note.

> A get well note or card, whether to a close relative away and you also write a letter, or on its own, is always more appreciated if one adds a personal touch to it. For example, if to a friend and it is not serious, “Don’t take your time about getting well -we haven’t finished our chess game yet…”; if to a friend, and it is serious, “I’ll pray for your speedy recovery.” An example, if it is to someone you hardly know and are sending it as the done-thing in your social or business circles, is: “I will look forward to hearing of your recovery from mutual friends and colleagues.”

>In bereavement cases never try to cheer up in a sympathy note with a joke; however well meant, in one’s grief it may be deemed unfeeling, inappropriate!.. Leave the comforting to the mourner’s loved ones from whom more than a sympathy note is considered appropriate! Be, or appear, sincerely saddened by the loss. Clearly state so: “I am saddened by the news of …’s death.” Say: “I am so sorry to hear of your loss.” Show so by emphasizing it, e.g., “… he/she will be greatly missed.” Unless a loved one writing a letter too, if you don’t attempt to comfort, it will be appreciated.

>> Notes to loved ones matter most. On an anniversary or birthday greeting never be satisfied with what’s on the greeting card. Even if to a loved one away and accompanied by a loving letter, always personalize the card with a few words of your own, e.g., “Miss you!” or “Love you!” or “Take care.”

The feelings of parents are -from a poem by the Cypriot thinker writer poet teacher the late Orhan Seyfi Ari:

“With us he was, in our nest, only yesterday…
How quickly has he grown wings, like a bird, flown away!”

As in personal letters, it shows that you are not greeting as the done thing -that you care.

Anyone can write a letter. Family/friends away appreciate letters.
